MERINO WOOL – What is it?
It is real natural wool from combed Merino sheep. The high quality is distinguished by its extremely fine fibers, and at the same time it is very durable. Merino wool is widely used in the textile industry in the forms of yarn, fabrics, felted goods etc.
WoolFelt brand focuses on creating exclusive artistic items using wet felting and nuno-felting techniques.
From our artist Svetlana PARDO III:
When I first got introduced to the unique properties and capabilities of merino wool, it totally blew my mind. I mainly work with Australian Merino wool, which is processed and dyed in Italy.
In my opinion, it is the felting technique that allows you to most effectively use the endless possibilities of wool. For items that do not touch human skin directly (bags, home decorations, accessories etc.) I additionally use wool from sheep of other breeds such as Bergschaf, Maori and others. This increases the density, thickness and durability if necessary.
Nuno-felting is a rather delicate technique. In nuno-felting I use pure silk, cotton and linen, which also serves strengthening purpose, as well as decorative. More often it is Margilan silk from Uzbekistan.
For decoration and fine touches, I use various plant fibers of Ramie, Hemp, Cotton, Flax, Roses and even fibers of pearls (I don't know what technical process is used to turn pearls into fibers, but believe me, pearl fibers exist). And also Viscose and Tencel Lyocell, which are also non-synthetic.
